EMC shielding fleece

From the shielding chamber to small electrical parts

Shielding fleeces are used in military and medical applications, among others. Further applications can be found in the technical field and in the shielding of electromagnetic waves. Compared to woven and knitted fabrics, shielding fleeces have a comparatively low thickness.

Based on many years of research and development work in aircraft construction as well as in the military sector, it has been possible to produce a shielding fleece which, thanks to its special copper coating, achieves a shielding of up to 99.999999 %.

Due to its special structure and coating, the shielding fleece can be used not only for the electric field but also for the magnetic field for the first time.

The attenuation value of the shielding is ideal for all areas where flexibility, high shielding effectiveness and current carrying capacity as well as simple and trouble-free processing are required. The material is air-permeable and breathable and can be cut and sewn with scissors or a knife. This non-woven fabric is a material that has the special properties of metals. It is flexible, air-permeable and structured. 40 g fabric contains 32 g metal.

Another interesting feature of the product is its absorbent property.

Your advantages at a glance

The shielding fleece is the basis for other EMC products, such as the EMC adhesive tape or EMC enclosure protection.
The advantage of all these EMC products is their excellent shielding properties. Among other things, this product diverts almost 100 % of the radiation.

Possible areas of application

Shielding of flat cables and round cables

As a basis for the shielding of various cables we use the absorbing shielding fleece, which has proven itself in many applications by its high shielding effect. In order to enable appropriate contact at the cable ends if necessary, we recommend the use of the EMC adhesive tape for EMC/RFI shielding, earthing and to avoid electrostatic charges, as a suitable accessory. This shielding of round and flat cables is a very efficient and cost-effective solution for retrofitting existing systems with high effectiveness. The possibilities and applications are almost limitless.
The shielding can be supplied in all widths and lengths as well as on rolls – standard widths and lengths can be shipped from stock at short term.

Housing protection through laminate

Our EMC shielding fleece is equipped with a special electrical insulation foil. This system has a very high dielectric strength and can therefore be used in all areas of electronics. The laminate can be punched into all conceivable contours with punching tools, if your company is equipped for this. It is also possible to define bending areas with special punching techniques. If required, you can thus create a kind of box, which can then be inserted directly into the enclosure parts. The advantage: electronics, shielding and enclosure function as individual units, which makes them independent in their design, since the shielding does not have to be adapted.

Room shielding

This product is ideal for protecting walls, ceilings and floors from electromagnetic radiation. Best shielding attenuation of up to 99.999999 % at low cost is the motto of our new shielding system. Thanks to its unique structure and coating, the shielding fleece can be used for the first time not only in the electric field but also in the magnetic field and thus reliably protects your furnishings from interfering electromagnetic radiation as well as magnetic fields. We recommend using our adhesive in addition, as it has electrical conductivity for the contact of the different panels at the same time as very high resistance. This means that even small companies or individual users can easily implement the system according to instructions. The integration of existing installations and conditions, such as ventilation or cable ducts, is also possible without much effort.

EMC shielding with the shielding cabin 100017

The cabin 100017 is used to shield equipment under test from external RF fields or to protect measuring devicess, e.g. during ESD tests.
In case of problems with particularly high demands on the equipment under test or in the USW range, interference fields from the environment must be shielded by a conductive enclosure.

The sealed cabin achieves a shielding effectiveness of approx. 50 dB in the frequency range up to 1 GHz. When closed, this provides an interference-free measurement environment. This allows interference emission measurements to be carried out on the DUTs without the need for an expensive EMC cabin or to protect sensitive measuring equipment during an immunity test, e.g. during an ESD test.

The shielded enclosure is a mobile enclosure for measurements on electronic circuits. It fits comfortably on any desk, is 40 cm high and offers a working area of 50 x 90 cm. This offers sufficient space.

However, for larger test specimens or measuring instruments, a further shielding cabin with the dimensions 50 x 90 x H 65 cm is available as standard. Two adapters are included in delivery. These are plugged as extensions to the two rear axles.

Folded up, the shielded cabin takes up little space and is easy to store.

The system consists of the tent, a support device and a base plate.
This metal base plate forms the reference surface for the measuring system.

The following interfaces have been installed as external connections:

1 filtered 230-volt safety plug
1 RJ 45
1 USB
1 x 3.5 mm connector for 12 V supply
1 BNC-RF transit
4 SMA-RF transit
4 filtered transits for laboratory cables
The installation is very simple. The support device is first unfolded and then inserted into the two rear openings of the base plate. Then the shielding cover is simply pushed onto the support.

Magnetic rubbers and pressure locks are incorporated in the cabin. It can therefore be assembled in a few seconds.

The cabin can be closed and opened very conveniently from the front for quick access to the test specimens. For better access, the entire cabin can also be inclined backwards.

Scope of delivery

Optional

The cabin can also be supplied with a complete ESD measuring field kit.

The kit is used to measure the electric or magnetic fields of the ESD generator. In addition to the test pulse, ESD generators also emit electric and magnetic interference fields that influence the test object. This additional influence is undefined and falsifies the ESD test result.

The developer can use the cabin to measure the additional fields of the ESD generator at his workplace and at the same time vary the position of the ESD generator in relation to the field measurement system. Knowledge of the strength and local distribution of the electric and magnetic interference fields of the ESD generator used is an important aid in suppressing device interference.

Summary

Since in a typical test setup with the shielding cabin all cables to the DUT are removed, filtered or placed on the base plate (capacitive coupling), shielding is possible in the immediate vicinity of the DUT. The metal base plate, which forms the reference surface of the measuring instrument, ensures a good and constant conductive connection to the current transformer or the HF derivation.

Ground plate

The ground plate serves as reference ground plane for EMC measurements and for shielding of DUTs or corresponding measuring devices.
These measuring instruments are protected against interference during EMC tests (ESD, burst, etc.) with the shielding cabin.

The electric connections between the setup on the groundplate and the environment are led outward via filters or RF connections to the outside. Supply connections: 110/230 V; 4x 50 V; 12 V DUT connections: RJ45; USB; 1x BNC; 4x SMA.

The 230 V filtered safety plug is used to supply the measuring instruments (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power amplifier) located on the ground plate.

Via Ethernet or USB connection the instruments can be remote controlled from outside and the DUTs can also be monitored and controlled from outside.

The 3.5 mm connector is used to supply power to equipment, e.g. preamplifiers on the ground plate. The preamplifiers are used for measurements with near-field probes or the HFW 21.

The BNC RF transit is used to transmit the measurement signals, for example from the near-field probes to the spectrum analyzer.

The 4 SMA RF filtered transits can be used transits for the measuring channels of an oscilloscope.

The 4 filtered transits for laboratory cables power the DUT

Screen cover

The cover consists of a conductive fabric. It is pulled over the cabin poles, which are inserteded into the ground plate. This creates a shielded space suitable for measurements of electronic assemblies during development or larger devices.

The cover can be easily and quickly opened and closed from the front, allowing access to the test object at any time.

The RF sealing of the cabin is achieved by means of magnetic sealing strips. The shielding cover is easy to handle. When folded, it takes up little space and is easy to store.
