Earthing accessories - What is earthing?

In electrical engineering, the term “earthing” refers to the connection of a conductor to a potential that is directly connected to earth. This earthing consists of uninsulated conductors buried in the ground, also known as earth electrodes, and the corresponding connection cables. Depending on the specific conditions on site, an earth electrode can take different forms, such as a pole, a rod or a plate.

Why is earthing important?

Connecting an appliance to reference potentials serves several purposes:

Since electrically conductive shielding materials for low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) fields interact with the existing alternating electric fields in the room, the field charge can increase. To reduce the electric field strengths (EZF), it is advisable to replace unshielded connection and extension cables with shielded versions, socket strips and task lights.

Effective protection of the sleeping area

To protect yourself from low-frequency fields, a suitable base on the floor is important as it dissipates these fields (earthing). Low-frequency fields are measured in volts per meter (V/m), and the value within a canopy should ideally be less than 1 V/m.

Compatibility of earthing kits for textiles

These earthing kits are compatible with various fabrics, shielding canopies and floor mats and can be easily connected to the earthing plug of a Schuko adapter.
